A 35-year old man, Irikefe Okoro, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to assassinate a female Lawyer, Barrister Doris Nwaserije, in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ojo Drive in Ojo area of Lagos, where the suspect, Okoro, reportedly targeted Barrister Doris to eliminate her.
The cause of the feud, which led to the claim by the Police that Okoro actually wanted to kill Doris was not disclosed. It was not certain if the victim had any matter with Okoro at any Court to warrant him going to her office to attack her.
However, the Police alleged that on 12th January, 2022, Okoro did by violence threatened to kill her by attacking her in the office.
The matter was then reported to the Police at Ojo Division and he was arrested. Having been found culpable after interrogation, he was subsequently charged before the Ojo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Uche Simeon, told the Court that the Police had enough evidence to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence and asked the Court to give a date for hearing so that justice will be done on the matter.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. A. A. Adesanya, granted Okoro bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. The matter was adjourned while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The defendant risks several years of imprisonment without an option of fine if he is tried and found guilty before the Court for the alleged offence.
