A 35-year old man, Isaac Akpan, who allegedly stabbed his neighbour, Godwin Otto, to death during a public fight in Lagos State and attempted to escape, was held by the people in the area and forced to eat the corpse.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ajah area of Lagos, where Akpan resides with the late Otto.
The suspect, Akpan, was said to have used an object to stab the deceased and he bled to death. He then tried to escape having realized that he had killed him but some people, who saw what happened reportedly held him and asked him to eat the corpse since he has killed him.
However, Akpan escaped being lynched in the area after the group later handed him over to the Police at Ajah Division, where he is currently detained by the Police and is facing charge of murder.
This was disclosed by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who said that the incident happened on 10th October, 2022, when Akpan stabbed Otto to death during a fight.
SP Hundeyin explained that after the incident, a group of people resident in the area held Akpan and brought the suspect to the Ajah Police Division to make the report.
He disclosed that the scene was visited by detectives from Ajah, who removed the corpse to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary at Yaba for autopsy, while investigation is ongoing.
The spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, commended the people who brought the suspect to the Police without taking laws into their hands through jungle Justice.
The suspect risks several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court but that will be after the conclusion of investigation by the Police.
