Police operatives from the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 35-year old man, Kingsley Achugbu, over alleged sexual molestation of two girls aged 2 and 17.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at 41 Close, FESTAC Town, Lagos, where they reside.
The Police alleged the suspect, Achugbu, on 17th June, 2021, did defile a 2-year old girl by penetrating her and on the same day attempted to lure a 17-year old girl by fondling her breast and buttocks.
He was reportedly caught and handed over to the Police in the area but operatives later transferred him to the Gender Section for interrogation.
After thorough interrogation at the Gender Section, he was found culpable and subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Victor Eruada, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tonimola, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s report while directing the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 9th September, 2021, for the report of the DPP to be available.
However, the matter may likely be transferred to the High Court if the DPP’s report finds him culpable and recommends his trial over jurisdiction.
