A 35-year old man, Akeem Waheed, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly luring a 14-year old girl and engaging her in sex and the victim claimed that she was defiled.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Waheed, has been arrested and charged for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.

The incident happened at Akewe Close, Opeloyeru in Alakuko area of Lagos, where they reside.

According to the Police, the suspect allegedly lured the victim to his apartment, used words of mouth to confuse her before he fondled her breasts and she became more confused. He then engaged her in sex before the victim later regained her senses and alleged that he engaged her in the act without her consent.

The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Police Command for interrogation.

During the interrogation, the suspect was alleged to have admitted to have slept with her but with her consent, which the victim denied and claimed that she did not consent to it.

However, the Police found him culpable for the alleged offence because of the age of the victim and consequently charged him before the Court.

The charge read:

That you, Akeem Waheed ‘m’ on the 12th day of August, 2024, at about 2230hours at Akewe Close, Opeloyeru, Alakuko Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim by forcefully having carnal knowledge of her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, without any option of bail pending the outcome of DPP’s legal advice.

The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice while the matter was adjourned till 3rd October, 2024, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
