It was double tragedy for a 15-year old girl in Lagos State, who was raped by her biological father repeatedly and while she was battling with the trauma, the alleged rape resulted into a pregnancy.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at No. 4 Omo-Oba Olukolu Street, Igbo-Efon, Lekki area of Lagos, where they reside.
The 36-year old father, Olukolu Wasiu, has been arrested and charged for incest, rape and impregnating an underage daughter under the criminal laws of the State.
According to the Police, the suspect allegedly engaged the victim in sex from 4th September, 2024 till 5th October, 2024 and warned her not to tell anyone about what he was doing to her.
However, the matter got exposed after the victim became pregnant and she mentioned her father as being responsible and revealed that for one month her father was having constant sex with her.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Olukolu Wasiu ‘m’, on the 4th day of September 2024 to 5th day of October 2024, at No. 4, Omo-Oba Olukolu Street, Igbo-Efon, Lekki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully have sexual intercourse with your daughter, 15 years old, which resulted into a pregnancy and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asked the Court to give a date and refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, without an option of bail, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The matter was adjourned till 29th January, 2025, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
