Man, 36, Docked For Stealing Child On Lagos Street

A 36-year old man, Aminu Shanaki, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a child belonging to a woman, Kausara Olaegbe, which he intended to sell to his customer.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Kola Bus-Stop, Alagbado area of Lagos State.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired on 7th September, 2024, stole the victim and while they tried to escape, they were caught while one of the accomplices escaped. The suspect was then handed over to the Police at Alagbado Division, where he was detained for interrogation.
During interrogation, the Police discovered that they had planned to sell the child to a buyer before they were apprehended. The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: That you, Aminu Shanaki “M” and others at large on the 7th of September, 2024, at about 1400hrs at Kola Bus-Stop, Alagbado, Lagos State in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to with child stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II: That you, Aminu Shanaki “M”, and others at large on the same date. time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal a child belonging to one Kausara Olaegbe ‘f” and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 277 (1) (a) of the criminal laws, law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 15th October, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
