A 36-year old man, Abdulrahman Lawal, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a company known as Per Square Meter Nest Limited the sum of N2.3m under the false pretence of supplying them 15 MOJEC prepaid meters but it turned to be a scam.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th January, 2024, at Idimu area of Lagos, where the company’s management contacted Lawal, who introduced himself as a staff of electricity distribution company and has the capacity with others at large to supply the prepaid meters to the tune of the amount in question.

According to the Police, the company’s management believed and paid him the money and he promised to supply the prepaid meters on an agreed date, which never happened. He was alleged to have obtained the money, bolted away and disconnected every communication between him and the company’s management.

When the company waited in vain on the agreed date for Lawal to supply the items, the matter was reported to the Police at Idimu Division. The operatives moved into action, arrested Lawal and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During interrogation, the Police discovered that he was not a staff of electricity distribution company as he claimed and he had no prepaid meters to supply as well as no money to refund the company.

The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal law of the State and which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before Court.

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The matter was adjourned till 8th April, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
