Man, 37, Docked for Allegedly Burgling Policeman’s Ejigbo Home & Carting Away N1.4M Items

Court 2 at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court turned into a theatre of drama on June 2, 2026 as 37-year-old Chima Agwu was docked over allegations of breaking into a senior Police officer’s Ejigbo home and carting away property worth N1.4M.

 

The Commissioner of Police filed Charge No. MM Flat 2026 against Agwu, accusing him of burglarizing the residence of CSP John Alabo at midnight when the area was quiet.

 

Prosecution told the court that the incident occurred on May 30, 2026 at about 10:00pm at No. 12, Omiyale Street, off Falana, Ejigbo, Lagos State, a street known for Police officers’ residences.

 

The charge sheet revealed that Agwu allegedly forced his way into the policeman’s living room and carted away a high-end sound system valued at N600,000 in one swoop.

 

He also allegedly made away with a 70-inches smart TV worth N350,000 and a 65-inches Samsung TV valued at N280,000, both belonging to the CSP, who was reportedly not at home that night.

 

Court documents showed that the suspect did not limit himself to electronics. The Police alleged that Agwu also stole a Yamaha big power generator worth N120,000 and a Tiger generator valued at N45,000 from the compound.

 

CSP Omisore Abiodun signed the charge sheet, putting the total value of stolen property at N1,395,000. Prosecution said the offence violated Section 287 of Lagos State Criminal Law 2015 which prescribed punishment for stealing.

 

When the charge was read in open court, Agwu stood in the dock and pleaded “Not Guilty.”

 

He denied breaking into the policeman’s Ejigbo home or stealing any of the listed items.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the court for an adjourned date for hearing to enable the Police to present witnesses, forensic evidence, and exhibits recovered from the scene of the alleged burglary.

The Presiding Magistrate, Miss F.R. Ogunkoyede, considered the bail application and granted Agwu bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must prove means of livelihood and Lagos residency.

 

Since Agwu could not meet the bail conditions immediately, the court ordered him remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending perfection of bail. The remand order sparked murmurs among court observers.

 

The case was adjourned to June 26, 2026 for hearing. Legal experts say the defendant, Agwu remains innocent until proven guilty by the court, but conviction under Section 287 carries serious jail term.
