Man, 38, Arrested For Beating Up Senior Police Officer While Attempting To Effect Arrest

A senior Police Officer attached to Ayobo Division in Lagos State, Supol Segun, had a nasty experience while performing his lawful duty on the highway when his team accosted an angry man in possession of harmful substances suspected to be drug but he ended up being beaten mercilessly and injured in the process. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Seun Adun, allegedly battered the Police officer, Segun, with fist blows and inflicted injury on his body before he was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

 

The incident happened on 4th July, 2024, at Ishefun area of Ayobo, where Mr. Segun and his team went to perform their lawful duty and accosted the suspect.

 

The suspect beat him and another officer, Agbadaola Tunde, mercilessly and tore Tunde’s Police uniform worth N40,000.

 

The suspect, Adun, has been arrested and charged before the Court for allegedly assaulting the victims.

 

According to the Police, the victims were  performing their lawful duty before they accosted him over his alleged conduct in public.

There was an altercation between the Police and the suspect. And in the process, the suspect rained several blows on Supol Segun and injured him and tore Tunde’s uniform.

 

However, the Police later mobilized and arrested him for his conduct and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail with one surety in like sum who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 27th July, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
