Man, 38, Docked For Attempting To Kill Neighbour With Cutlass Over His Dogs

A 38-year old man, Christian Onyemeh has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly pursuing his neighbour, Arikawe Daniel, with a cutlass to cut him to death because of dogs.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 11th August, 2025, at Alhaji Adekunle Street, Idowu Egba, Isheri Idimu area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect brought two puppies into the compound and they defecated at every corner of the house. The complainant then confronted him among other tenants.
The confrontation was said to have angered the suspect and he brought out a cutlass to cut the complainant before he took to his heels and the suspect pursued him on the street with the weapon.
The matter was eventually reported to the Police at Idimu Division. The suspect was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
While being interrogated, the suspect admitted to have used a cutlass to attack him but he missed his target and the matter was as a result of his dogs.
The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment
The charges read:
“That you, CHRISTAIN ONYEMEH ‘M’ on the 11th day of August, 2025 at about 1000hrs at No.14 Alhaji Adekunle Street, Idowu Egba, Isheri Idimu area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did threaten one Arikawe Daniel with a cutlass to cut him to death and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 56(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:-“That you, CHRISTAIN ONYEMEH ‘M’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magistrial District, did conduct yourself in manner likely to cause breach of peace by bringing two dogs into the compound to defecate at every corner of the house, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 15th September ,2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
