It was like double jeopardy for a 13-year old girl in Lagos State, who was allegedly drugged and defiled by their neighbour, Timothy Levi, as she also got pregnant as a result of the rape.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the dastardly incident happened at Ita Ola Drive, Ajao Estate, where they reside.
The 38-year old neighbour, Levi, has been arrested and charged for the alleged defilement.
According to the Police, the suspect lured the neighbour’s daughter into his apartment and offered her a bottle of Coca Cola. She drank, became unconscious and slept off. He then repeatedly defiled her before she regained her senses and left his house without informing her parents about what happened.
However, after several weeks, the victim’s mother observed some changes both on her body and behaviour. And she conducted a pregnancy test and it was positive.
The victim then revealed to mother how their neighbour, Levi, lured her into his apartment, offered her the drink, she slept off and later discovered that he had raped her but she did not tell them became of fear and shame.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ajao Estate Division and the suspect, Levi, was arrested and later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for further investigation over his conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However,  the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
Hence, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of DPP’s advice to be made available, while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
