A 38-year old man, Barclays Kalu Uchendu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly engaging an 18-year old lady in sex twice without her consent.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Igbayi Road, Alapere area of Lagos State, where they reside.
The suspect landed in trouble after the victim reported him at DSVA in Alausa, Ikeja, that he had raped her in December, 2023 and repeated it in 2024, which had caused her psychological trauma.
Thus, the suspect was arrested and detained for interrogation over the alleged rape, which he denied and told the investigators that he had normal sex with her and with her consent.
However, he was found culpable and consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant will remain in custody pending when the DPP’s report will be ready to determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
