A 38-year old man, Jideofor Oyanusi, has been arrested and charged before the Ojo Magistrate Court in Lagos State for allegedly battering his wife, Clara, their house maid, Miracle Monday and pouring away a pot of cooked beans after burning the wife’s belongings during a squabble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Bayo Street, Jakande area of Ojo, where they reside.
The man, Oyanusi, was charged for assault over his alleged conduct against his wife, Clara and the housemaid, Miracle.
The cause of the squabble between the man and the victims was not disclosed by the Police at Ilembe Division, who arrested and charged him to Court.
However, the Police alleged him to have threatened the victims with violence by giving them several slaps and attempting to stab the housemaid with a kitchen knife and setting his wife personal belongings and documents ablaze during the attack.
The matter was reported to the Police who arrested him for interrogation over his alleged conduct and he was found culpable after rounds of interrogation.
Consequently, he was charged before the Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.M. Alade, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 16th July, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
