A 39-year old man, Onyekachi Stephen, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly luring a 16-year old girl into sex, impregnating and endangering her life by inducing abortion on her in order to terminate the pregnancy.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Irawo Didum Street, Igando area of Lagos, where they reside.
The suspect landed in trouble after took the girl to an unknown place, where he kept her in captivity and had sex with her before she became pregnant. And in order to cover up the act, he administered a substance, which she drank and terminated the pregnancy.
However, after taking the substance, there were complications which exposed him and as well endangered the life of the victim.
The girl was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and the matter was reported to the Police at Igando Division. The suspect, Stephen, was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the conduct.
After thorough interrogation and having been found culpable, he was charged before Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the victim is still a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 14th March, 2023, for mention for report of DPP’s report to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
