Man, 39, Remanded For Swindling Victim Of N30m Under False Pretence

A 39-year old man, Wande Adams, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling another man, Ayodeji Rotimi, to the tune of N30m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in January, 2024 after the suspect obtained the money, bolted away and went into hiding.
According to the Police, the suspect fraudulently obtained the money from the complainant under the false pretence of developing some Technological Platforms, which comprises of websites, client web portals, domain web, portals and two mobile applications, which turned out to be a scam.
The suspect obtained the money, bolted away and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant.
The matter was reported to the Police. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you, Wande Adams ‘m’ sometime in January 2024, at Lagos in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did fraudulently obtain the sum of Thirty Million Naira (N30,000,000.00) from one Ayodeji Rotimi ‘m’ under the pretense that you want to develop some Technological Platforms, which comprises of websites, client web portals, domain web, portals and two mobile applications, a representative you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:” That you, Wande Adams ‘m’ on the same date, time and place, at the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal the sum one Thirty Million Naira (N30,000,000.00) only, property of one Ayodeji Rotimi ‘f’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287(a) (b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:” That you, Wande Adams ‘m’ on the same date, time and place, at the aforementioned Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Of. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
