A 39-year old man, Chibike Ajunwa, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly luring and engaging his neighbour’s 7-year old girl in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ajunwa, has been arrested and charged before the Court for defilement under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State and may spend the rest of his life in prison custody if found guilty.
The incident happened at Ademan Street, Ishuti Road by Ishoga Bus Stop, Igando area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect lured the victim to his apartment and engaged her in the act. And having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go but warned her not to tell anyone about it.
Trouble started after the victim’s parents got the information that the suspect slept with her and they went to Igando Police Division and reported that he defiled the victim, who is still a minor.
He was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable of sleeping with the victim and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 17th April, 2024, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction
