A 40-year old man, George Ukpong, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly luring a 15-year old girl into sex after sucking her breasts, getting her confused and unable to resist the temptation.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 19th February, 2023 at Jaiye Oba Street, Shasha area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect lured the girl into his apartment, engaged her in sex and while they were in the act, one of their neighbours caught them and raised alarm which attracted other neighbours including the girl’s parents.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the suspect was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over the conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However, when he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 22nd March, 2023, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
DSP Ajayi said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
