A 40-year old man, Adeolu Adeniyi John, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly robbing and raping two ladies by using a toy gun to threaten them to submission by the roadside.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th October, 2023 at Obadore Bus Stop, LASU Road, Alimosho Local Government area of the Lagos State, between the hours of 10 to 11pm while they were returning home.
The victims, (names withheld), suffered their fate while they were returning home separately and were accosted by the suspect, who pointed a gun at them, took them to the roadside and forced them to remove their pants with threat to kill them if they failed to comply.
Thus, the victims allowed him to have his way as he thereafter he robbed them of  their phones and forced them to transfer the whole money in their accounts to his palmpay account before he escaped.
However, the matter was reported to the Police operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad of the Lagos State Command, who moved into action and eventually arrested the suspect, John and detained him for interrogation.
The victims were invited and they identified him, which he reportedly admitted and told the Police that what he actually used to carry out the dastardly act on the victims was a toy gun.
The Police found him culpable after rounds of interrogation and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for armed robbery and rape, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 16th January, 2024, while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s Advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
