Man, 40, In Police Net For Impregnating Girl, 13

A 40-year old man, Emmanuel Ekande, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly lured a 13-year old girl, forcefully engaged her in sex and got the victim pregnant eventually. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ekande, has been arrested for  defilement. 

The incident happened at Alakija Street, GRA, Ikeja, where Ekande resides. 

According to Police sources, the suspect allegedly lured the girl sometime in December 2021, forcefully engaged her in the act and asked her not to tell anybody about it; the girl kept it to herself because of fear.

However, the girl’s parents noticed the change in her body and she was taken  to an undisclosed hospital. A test was conducted and the result showed that  she was pregnant.
She was then asked to know who was responsible and he mentioned Ekande. The matter was reported to the Police at Area F Command, Ikeja. Police operatives then arrested Ekande and detained him for interrogation. 

During interrogation, it was discovered that it was not the first time the girl has been raped by the suspect before he  eventually impregnated her.

The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence. . 
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Bisi Ogunleye, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the victim is still a minor. 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send itto DPP while the matter was adjourned till 8th March, 2022, for the DPP’s report to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
