KINGSLEY EBERE
A 41-year old man, Kingsley Nwaizugbe, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly battering his wife, Nwaizioma Ozioma, during public brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on April, 2025 at Bankole Ololo Street, Obadire – Igando, Lagos where they reside.
According to the Police, the man had a disagreement with the wife, which led to exchange of words. In the process, the man attacked her with a knife, rake, bottle and inflicted injuries on her head and also used a pressing iron to injure her leg.
However, their neighbours later rescued her and she was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment while the matter was reported to the Police at Igando Division. He was then arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation at the Gender Section, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Kingsley Nwaizugbe ‘m’ sometime in the month of April, 2025 at 18, Bankole Ololo Street, Obadire – Igando, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault one Nwaizioma Ozioma ‘f, your wife by beating her with a knife, rake, bottle and inflicting injuries on her head and using a pressing iron to injure her leg and thereby committed an offence punishable Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:” That you, Kingsley Nwaizugbe ‘m’, on the same, date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully beat one Nwaizioma Ozioma ‘f, your wife and caused her grievous harm, by inflicting injuries on her head and leg and thereby committed an offence punishable Section 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Kingsley Nwaizugbe ‘m’, sometime in the month of April, 2025 at about 1200hours, at No. 18, Bankole Ololo Street, Obadire Igando, Lagos State, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did resist the trio of Inspector Abosede Badru, Cpl. Sunday David and Cpl. Ikhidero Agnes, while engaged in the discharge of their lawful duty to arrest you as imposed on them by the Laws and Police Regulations C41 Section 24 and thereby committe offence contrary to and punishable under Section 117(1)(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 2nd June, 2026, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
