KINGSLEY EBERE

The Ikeja Magistrate Court has arraigned a 42-year-old man, Kazeem Olaosebikan, over allegations of vehicle damage, theft, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace. The charge sheet marked Charge No. 2026 was dated May 12, 2026, and lists the Commissioner of Police as complainant.

According to the document, the incident allegedly occurred on May 9, 2026, at about 5:00pm at No 1, Ring Road Omologede Street, Meiran, Lagos. The address falls within the Ikeja Magisterial District where the case was filed.

Count I of the charge relates to conduct likely to cause breach of peace.* The prosecution alleged that on the stated date and place, the defendant collected Six Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira, property of one Tajudeen Sulieman. This offence is said to be contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count II accused him of theft of N610,000.The charge sheet alleged that on the same date, time, and location, the defendant stole Six Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira belonging to Suleiman Tajudeen and converted it for personal use. The prosecution cited Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count III focused on alleged damage to a vehicle valued at N100 million. The prosecution alleges that at the same location and time, the defendant willfully damaged one Mercedes Benz 450GL valued at One Hundred Million Naira, property of Suleiman Tajudeen. This is said to be punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge sheet was processed by Meiran Police Station. Supol Alonge Bridget is listed as the Investigating Police Officer, while the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, is named as complainant.

The three counts cover separate allegations under Lagos State law. They include public order, property theft, and malicious damage to goods, as detailed in the charge sheet filed before the court.

The vehicle referenced in Count III is described as a Mercedes Benz 450GL. The prosecution estimated its value at One Hundred Million Naira in the document presented to the court.

During arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all three counts. The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court for a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.K. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties. The court ordered that the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment with addresses to be verified by the Court.

The defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri Town, Lagos, pending the perfection of his bail conditions. He will remain in custody until the bail requirements are met.

It is important to note that a charge sheet contains allegations made by the prosecution. Under Nigerian law, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court after both the prosecution and defence have presented their evidence. The matter is expected to continue on the next date set by Ikeja Magistrate Court.
