Man, 42, Docked For Attacking CSP Akintoye Gbenga While Performing Lawful Duty

Senior Police officer, CSP Akintoye Gbenga, attached to Area P Command,  Alagbado, Lagos, had a nasty experience while performing his lawful duty on the highway as he was attacked and brutalized in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that a 42-year old suspect, Abiola Ipaye, attacked him and his team while performing their lawful duty. Before he could be over-powerd and arrested by the officers, he had injured CSP Gbenga.
The incident happened on 30th March, 2026, at about 0910hrs at Gate bus stop, Abesan Ipaja, Lagos.
The cause of the feud between the suspect, Ipaye and the Police officers was not disclosed. But the Police alleged conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, assault and obstruction of Police lawful duty.
He was found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Abiola Ipaye ‘M’, on the 30th March, 2026, at about 0910hrs at Gate bus stop, Abesan Ipaja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by obstructing CSP Akintoye Gbenga and his men while performing their lawful duties and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Abiola Ipaye ‘M’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did attacked CSP Akintoye Gbenga and his men while performing their lawful duties and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 174(b) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Abiola Ipaye ‘M’, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did damage the side mirror of a mini bus Astral Hijet with Registration Number EPE 130 YH valued Twenty Thousand Naira, property of Dayo Onabanjo, and two(2) plastic chairs valued Twenty Two Thousand (N22,000.00K), iron door of the Area Commander’s office, property of the Nigeria Police Force and thereby
committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However,  he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.R. Ogunkoyode, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 24th April, 2026, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
