A 42-year-old man, Muyiwa Shonibare, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly defiling an 11-year old girl and Impregnating her in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Odeyele Street, Agodo Egbe, Ikotun area of Lagos State.
However, the whole act got exposed after the girl became pregnant and her parents asked her to know who was behind the pregnancy and she mentioned the suspect, Muyiwa.
The matter was reported to the Police and the suspect was arrested. Having been found culpable after interrogation, he was consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for defilement and indecent treatment of a child.
The Prosecution Counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the Court that Muyiwa Shonibare committed the offence between August and November, 2023. He said to have allegedly lured the girl to his house at midnight, defiled and got her pregnant.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered that he should be remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 24th April, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
