MICHAEL AKINOLA
A 42-year old man, Onaji Daniel Moses has landed in trouble in Lagos State for conducting himself violently by allegedly assaulting his wife,over his inability to provide food and basic necessities for his family.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the man, Moses, has been arrested and charged for assault and failure to provide the basic necessities for his children.
The incident happened at Mojisola Alapinii Street off Community Road, Ijegun, Lagos, where he resides with his family.
According to the Police, the man got angry that his embattled wife was demanding money for the feeding of the children which led to exchange of words between them and in the process, he assaulted her.
The matter was reported at DSVA, Alausa in Ikeja, Lagos and the man was arrested and detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT I: That you, Onaji Daniel Moses, ‘m’ on the 3rd of January 2024 at House 8 Mojisola Alapini Street, off Community Road Ijegun Ikotun Lagos in Ogba Magisterial district, did assault Mrs. Ugbebor by inflicting injuries on her head and body and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 173 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II: That you, Onaji Daniel Moses ‘m’ same place, date and time in the aforesaid Magisterial district, did vehemently refuse to provide necessaries of life for your children and thereby committed and offence contrary to and punishable under Section 247 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 19th November, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
