Man, 43, Defiles Neighbour’s 10-year Old Girl

A 43-year old man, Chukwuma Smart, has landed in prison in Lagos after he allegedly engaged his neighbour’s 10-year girl and in the process deflowered her.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Araromi Street in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos where they reside.

It was gathered that the man, Smart, had targeted the victim when her parents were not around, lured her into his apartment and defiled her.
He was said to have warned the victim not to tell anyone about it whereas he injured her during the forceful penetration of her private part.
However, the victim opened up when she experienced strange things on her body including bleeding from her private part. She then told her parents what happened and mentioned the man, Smart, as being responsible.

The matter was reported to the Ipaja Police Division and Smart was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted penetrating her but claimed that he did not force her into as consented to the act.
The police found him culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement.
The prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because it involved a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while the defendant will remain in prison custody pending the outcome of DPP’s report.
The matter was adjourned 15th July, 2019, when the DPP’s report will be ready. The matter may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable for the alleged offence.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Smart risks 20 years imprisonment if he is tried for defilement and found guilty by the High Court.
