A 43-year old man, Friday Abu, may have to spend the rest of his life in prison custody for allegedly engaging his niece in sex romp forcefully before he was exposed by the victim in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Olugbede compound, Alapere area of Lagos, where they reside.
The suspect, Abu has been arrested and charged for statutory rape over his alleged conduct on the victim, who was living with him and his wife.
Mr. Abu was alleged to have lured the victim into his room when his wife was not around and forcefully engaged her in the act but warned her not to tell anyone about it.
However, the victim revealed what happened to his wife and other members of the family and the matter was reported to the Police in the area which led to his arrest. The matter was transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for further interrogation.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 23rd July, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
