A 44-year old man, Nasiru Umaru, has landed in trouble after he allegedly lured a 16-year old girl and engaged her in sex inside the market in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that he was caught and handed over to the Police for defilement.
The incident happened at LB Alabama at Mile 12 Market, where Umaru reportedly took the victim to a corner and penetrated her.
According to Police sources, while he was in the act, he was caught by one of the traders, who raised alarm which attracted other traders.
The Police at Ketu Division was contacted; he was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation.
He did not deny engaging in the act but told the Police that he did so with the consent of the girl, who claimed that he lured her into the act without her consent.
However, the Police found him culpable for his conduct in a public place by engaging a minor in the act. He was then charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Rank Akeem, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in Kirikiri Correctional Centre and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP while the matter was adjourned till 5th November, 2021, for the outcome of DPP’s advice.
Police sources said that the matter will be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence over jurisdiction.
