Man, 45, Arraigned For Allegedly Swindling Woman Of N5m Under False Pretence

Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested a 45-year old man, Noah Lawal and charged him before the Court for allegedly swindling a woman, Ganiyat Lawal, to the tune of the sum of N5m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 29th day of December, 2025, at Ladiga Street, Ikorodu Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect told the complainant that he had a plot of land for sale and she paid the money as they had agreed.
However, trouble started after she paid the money and the suspect bolted away and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant.
The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police Tactical Squad at the State Command. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Noah Lawal, ‘m’ and others now at large, on the 29th day of December, 2025, at about 1100hrs, at No. 8, Ladiga Street, Ikorodu Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit:obtaining money by false pretence and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, Noah Lawal ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did defraud one Ganiyat Lawal of the sum of Five million, three hundred and fifty thousand Naira 5,350,000.00), with intent to sell a plot of land in Ikorodu for her, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 313 and punishable under Section 314(1)(a)(b)(2)(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State., 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
