Police operatives from the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit at the Command, Ikeja, have arrested a 45-year old man, Alaba Olorunlogbon Animashaun, for allegedly stealing the documents of Late F.A. Aremu Olotunlogbon’s house and claiming ownership as gift by the deceased in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in June, 2025, at Onibuore Street, Ikate, Surulere, Lagos.

In order to prove that the deceased gifted him the house while he was still alive, the suspect allegedly forged his signature which he claimed was signed by deceased before he died.

He allegedly started threatening a relation to the deceased, one Chief Lateef Olorunlogbon, by words of mouth that he will kill him if he will not allow for him to claim the house.

The matter was reported to the Police. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During the investigation, the Police discovered that the documents were stolen and the signature purportedly signed by the deceased was forged.

Thus, he was charged before the Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, Alaba Olorunlogbon Animashaun ‘m sometime in June 2025 at No. 31, Onibuore Street, Ikate, Surulere, Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal house documents of the above address belongings to Late Chief F.A. COUNT II:”That you, Alaba Olorunlogbon Animashaun ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did threaten to kill one Chief Lateef Olorunlogbon ‘m’ by words of mouth and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 56 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT III: “That you, Alaba Olorunlogbon Animashaun ‘m’ on same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did forge the signature of Late Chief F.A Olorunlogbon in the guise of gift claims to have been given by same and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 366 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT IV:”That you, Alaba Olorunlogbon Animashaun ‘m’ on same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by falsifying documents with the intent to claim the ownership of the property lying at 31, Onibuore Street, Ikate Surulere, Lagos and committed an offence punishable under Section 168 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

However,  he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
