A woman, Mrs. Esther Sopade, received serious beating from her estranged husband, Olamilekan Odejobi, after she abandoned him for 12 years and later went to him demanding for money for the feeding and school fees of their three children in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the embittered husband, Odejobi, pretended and asked her to come and collect the money as she had demanded. When she got there, the husband battered and inflicted serious injury on her in the process.
The incident happened at Olaleye Street, off Yusuf Road, while Mrs. Sopade lives at Abeokuta Close both in Alakuko area of Lagos State.
According to the Police sources, the estranged couple had a disagreement which they were unable to resolve and the wife moved away from the husband with their children for those years.
However, sometime this year, she contacted her husband and demanded for their children’s school fees and money for feeding after the abandonment over the years, which led to the assault on her.
The alleged assault was reported to the Police at Alakuko Division and the man, Odejobi, was arrested and detained for interrogation over the conduct.
While being interrogated, he was said to have complained bitterly over her conduct when she took their children and went away over the years but wanted him to provide for the same children he forcefully took from him and denied access.
Notwithstanding, the Police found him culpable over the conduct and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged assault and refusal to provide for the upkeep of the children including school fees.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Raphael Donny, asked the Court to give a short date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.G. Oghre, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The matter was adjourned and he was remanded in correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
