A 45-year old man, Garuba Gamboa Mohammed, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly lured a 14-year old girl coming back from school to an uncompleted building and engaged her in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Mohammed, has been arrested and charged for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened at Ijedodo area of Lagos.
However, the matter got exposed after the victim went to her mother’s shop and informed her about what happened and how the suspect lured her to the place before he defiled her.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division. The Police moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and transferred him to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation at the Gender Section, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Garuba Gambo Mohamed ‘m’ on the 15th day of August, 2024, at about 2000hours, at Ijedodo area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim, 14years old by having sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 5th November,2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
