A 45-year old man, Fatoku Fatai has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly confused and lured a 13-year old girl, engaged her in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Fatai, has been arrested for statutory rape.
The incident happened at Makoko area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect, Fatai, lured the girl to his apartment, got her confused and engaged her in sex romp. Having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go. But the information leaked to the victim’s parents who confronted her and she revealed what happened to her and alleged she was lured into the act.
The matter was reported to the Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos; the suspect was arrested and detained for interrogation over the conduct.
During interrogation, he admitted and told the Police he did that but with her consent because she did not resist his moves. That did not save him because the Police found him culpable for engaging a minor in sexual act.
He was subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate,  Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
