A 45-year old man, Sunday Agwim, has reportedly killed his 62 year-old mother, beheaded and grinded the deceased’s head till it turned to powder in their country home, Umuobom in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the suspect, Mr. Sunday Agwim, allegedly murdered his mother with the use of a machete and used hammer to grind the mother’s head beyond human recognition which sparked controversy in the community.
The motive behind his action was not yet disclosed but members of the community believed that Sunday committed the dastardly act for ritual purposes in order to become rich.
However, the suspect was later handed over to the Police by people in the community to avoid jungle justice and being lynched by angry mob.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Police Command, DSP Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident and said that the Police arrived at the scene after gathering intelligence reports on the location of the unfortunate incident and found the remains of the victim lying helplessly.
He narrated that the suspect confessed to the crime but said he did not know what came on him which led him into killing his mother while adding that the remains of the 62 year-old woman has been deposited at the morgue as autopsy would be conducted later.
DSP Orlando Ikeokwu said investigation is still in progress to unravel the circumstance behind the death and the suspect would be charged to Court soon after the conclusion of investigations.
