A 45-year old man, Lukman Adekoya, has landed in trouble after he allegedly impregnated a 33-year old lady, Atinuke Oshorinde, and abandoned her after she gave birth to a son in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the man, Adekoya, has been arrested and charged to Court for the alleged negligence and abandonment.
The defendant, Adekoya, who lives at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge after the embattled lady, Atinuke, reported to the Police that she and her new born baby were homeless and could not feed because Adekoya abandoned them to their fate. The Police moved into action and eventually arrested him. He was detained for interrogation over his conduct and he was unable to give satisfactory explanation why he abandoned them.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The Police Prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, had told the Court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2020 at his residence after he impregnated Atinuke Oshorinde and abandoned her with their son to suffer.
”He refused to supply their needs and abandoned both mother and child, thereby endangering their lives. The defendant refused to provide an accommodation for them and left them to suffer,” she stated.
The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened Sections 247 (1) and 249 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, Adekoya pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Presiding Magistrate, Ejiro Kubeinje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties and directed that the home and office addresses of the sureties should be verified.
The matter was adjourned till 2nd February, 2023, for hearing while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
