Man, 46, Remanded In Custody For Threatening To Kill Landlady Over Utility Bill

A 46-year old man, Shoboyode Yusuf Adeniran, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly threatening to kill his landlady, Ojedokun Atinuke Aminat, over utility bill. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Iyaniwura Close, Ore Meta Bus Stop, Shasha area of Lagos, where he reside.

 

The suspect, Adeniran, was said to have become angry that the landlady, Aminat, asked him to pay for his utility bill whereas he had no money to buy food to eat. He then threatened that he will not pay any bill in the house and nobody can do anything to him. That was after the other tenants equally contacted the landlady to report what he said before the landlady contacted him and she got the shock of her life.

 

According to the Police, the suspect abused and threatened to kill his landlady. He reiterated that nothing will happen if he kills her, which made her become terribly afraid and went into hiding.

 

The matter was reported to the Police through a petition to the Area M Command, Idimu. The operatives acted promptly, arrested Adeniran and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 26th June, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
