A 42-year old man, Ojo Adedayo, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly jilted and swindled a lady, Mutiat Omobonike, of the sum of N2m under the false pretense of getting married to her, which later turned out to be a scam.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Agege area of Lagos, where Adedayo met Mutiat.

The lady suffered her fate after she met  Adedayo, who reportedly convinced her, asked her hand in marriage and she accepted while giving him the go ahead to meet her family for introduction and other arrangements.

However,  the man, Adedayo, told her of the need to secure a new accommodation, where they will live as husband and wife after the traditional and wedding rites.

The lady reportedly agreed, went ahead and gave him the said money for the new accomodation and other arrangements for the marriage not knowing that  Adedayo had another thing entirely in mind.

After he obtained the money from her,  he bolted away; disconnected every communication he had with her and relocated to an unknown place.
The lady was shocked and when she recovered, she went to the Police at Human Rights Resource Center in Ikeja, Lagos and reported the alleged scam. The Police eventually trailed and arrested Adedayo for questioning over his conduct.

During interrogation, he admitted to have obtained some money from her and had used it for another purpose because he was not ready for the marriage.

The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for allegedly obtaining under false pretense.

When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Christopher John, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence since he pleaded not guilty before the Court.

The Presiding Magistrate granted him bail in the sum N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 5th May, 2022, for mention.
