Man, 48, Docked For Producing Fake Condom Packs For Sale At Idumota Market

A 48-year old man, Matthew Nwachi Oko, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly producing fake kiss condom small pack, product of DKT International Nigeria Limited. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports the suspect has been arrested and charged for forgery under the Criminal law of the State.

 

The incident happened in December 2023 at the Idumota area of Lagos, when was caught with packs of the items, which he had produced for sale in the market.

 

The matter was reported to the Police; he was then arrested and detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After thorough interrogation, he was found culpable for forgery and consequently charged to Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The Police Prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikhayere,  told the Court that the alleged  offence violated Sections 363 and 412 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

 

The Section 363 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for anyone found guilty of forging any document, writing, or seal. She told the Court that  the defendant and others still at large duplicated and forged Kiss condom packages, both small and large sizes, reproduced the condom packs without approval or consent from the company.

 

The charges read:

“That you Matthew Nwachi Oko ‘M’ 48yrs and others at large in the Lagos State Magisterial District on 24 day of April, 2025 at about 07:06 hours did conspire among yourselves to print fake kiss condom small pack, product of DKT International Nigeria Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

Court II:”That you, Matthew Nwachi Oko ‘M’ 48yrs and others at large in the aforementioned district on the same date, place and time, did fake kiss condom small pack, product of DKT International Nigeria Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 363 Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Supol  Ikhayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Lafeef A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000. with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 1st July,2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
