A 49-year old man, Sunday Julius, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for malicious damage after he wilfully vandalized a transformer worth N12m belonging to a woman, Jennifer Chukwuka.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Odude Street, Agric area of Ojo.
The Police did not disclose the details of how the suspect damaged the item but stated that on the said date he wilfully damaged the item in question and bolted away.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ojo Division and the Police moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the suspect was reportedly asked to pay for the cost of the item he damaged but he told the Police that he had no such money.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ajayi, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
