A 49-year old man, Sofowora David Olujimi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a woman, Adeniyi Aderonke, to the tune of N2m under the false pretence of selling his land to her but it turned out to be scam.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Kasan Plaza, Ikotun area of Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect had between 2021 and 2022 told the complainant that he had a landed property he wanted to sell to solve his personal problem and they negotiated to the tune of the said amount and she paid him.

However, trouble started when the complainant asked him to go and show her the land she had paid For. He then started dodging her and went into hiding as he had no land for sale.

When the complainant realized that the suspect had no land, she demanded for her money but he did not do anything after making promises.

The alleged fraud was reported to the Police at Area M Command, Idimu and the suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to have collected the money, which he claimed to have spent and had no land to give her as he promised.

The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining under false pretence and fraud.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N700,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 11th June, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
