Man, 50, Docked For Breaking Wife’s Spinal Cord During Public Brawl

A 50-year old man, Theodore Chukwudi Njoku, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly beating his wife and inflicting injury on her spinal cord during a public brawl, which resulted into her not being able to walk properly.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that apart from  allegedly breaking her spinal cord, he removed every valuable properties including the mattress in their apartment and abandoned the wife and children to an undisclosed location.
The alleged conduct was reported to the Police at Area G Command, Ogba, Lagos. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the complainant and the children.
After thorough interrogation,  the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Theodore Chukwudi Njoku’m’ sometime in September, 2024 at about 0640hrs at No. 9, Adeneye Street, Iju Ishaga Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did assault one Joy Chukwudi, your wife and also inflicted injuries on her spinal cord and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 172 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Theodore Chukwudi Njoku ‘m’, on the 25th June, 2025 at about 0740hrs at No. 9, Adeneye Street, Iju Ishaga, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did abandon your wife and children by not providing the necessary needs of your family and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 247 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Theordore Chukwudi Njoku ‘m’, on the same. date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by moving every valuable properties including the mattress and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168 and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, granted him bail with sureties I, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
