A 50-year old man, Jamiu Jimoh, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly using charms to instill fear and scare away the members of staff of Ikeja Electric PLC from disconnecting power supply over accumulated electricity bills.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 23rd November, 2023, at Jamiu Raji Street, Agodo Egbe area of Ikotun, Lagos, where Jimoh resides.
He has been arrested and charged for threatening the lives of the Ikeja Electric staff by tempering with their ladder, with which they had wanted to climb the electric pole to disconnect power supply with a knife and black rope suspected to be charms that will make them fall from the pole.
His action instilled fear in the electricity distribution staff and they hurriedly ran away but reported what happened to their manager in the office, who responded promptly by contacting the Police at Ikotun Division.
Thus, the suspect, Jimoh, was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct. And during interrogation, Jimoh told the Police that they were not supplying electricity to the area and at the end of the month they will bring outrageous bills and thereafter come to disconnect their wires.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court over threat to life and violence on the staff while performing their lawful duty under the Criminal Laws of the State.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
