A 50-year old man, Yusuf Bako, will be spending the rest of his life in prison custody for luring and defiling a 4-year old girl inside a Mosque in Bauchi State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Bauchi State High Court, which found the suspect, Bako, guilty of rape and sentenced him accordingly under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened inside the Mosque in Bauchi metropolis in 2020 and the suspect was arrested by the Police operatives from the Bauchi Command, who found him culpable after interrogation and consequently charged before the Court for the offence.
The little victim suffered her fate during the COVID-19 lockdown and the convict was arrested and charged before the Court, where he faced trial and was convicted for the alleged offence.
During the trial, the Court discovered that the convict had previously been jailed twice for similar rape offences. Thus, the Court gave him maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
The Director of Public Prosecution, Barrister Sha’awanatu Yusuf, confirmed the conviction and emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to justice for rape victims and the enforcement of the VAPP Law in the state.
She also called on parents to support authorities in prosecuting offenders to serve as deterrent to prevent others who might want to commit similar crimes in future.
