A 52-year old man, Friday Igberase, has been arrested for allegedly attacking and raping a 60-year old woman and infecting her with strange sickness inside her farm in Edo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in her farm in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of the state.
The alleged dastardly act was reported to the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara of the Edo State Command and the suspect was arrested by the Uromi Division of the State Command.
This was disclosed by the Police boss, CP Dankwara, who confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect in custody undergoing interrogation over his alleged conduct.
He explained that the Police at Uromi Division received a complaint from the victim that in July, 2023 that the suspect attacked and raped her inside her farm with threat to kill her should she tell anyone.
“The victim also alleged that since the rape incident, she has been suffering from a strange sickness.”
He stated that the Police took the victim to the hospital for treatment, arrested the suspect and detained him for interrogation over the alleged offence.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and the matter has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CIB), Benin for further investigation.
The suspect may likely be prosecuted for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State and risks several years of imprisonment but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
