Police operatives from the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 54-year old man, Kehinde Jimoh, who was allegedly caught having sex inside a Mosque with a 5-year old girl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Mosque located at 27 Audu Baale Street, Iwaya area of Yaba, Lagos.
People in the area expressed surprise while wondering what would have led the man, Jimoh, to have committed such crime in a place of worship. The man was said to have lured the victim to the place, removed her pant and defiled her. He was however, caught in the dastardly act and handed over to the Police in the area, who then transferred him to the Gender Section for further investigation.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found the man culpable and later charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement which attracts several years of imprisonment if found guilty for the alleged offence.
The Court denied him bail and refused to take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Ezekiel Ayorinde, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered his remand in the Correctional centre and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP’s advice suggests that he is culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence. He will remain in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice while the matter was adjourned till 10th August, 2020.
