A 56-year old man, Williams Omigie, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly forging their late father’s house documents and selling the property for N90m without the consent of the family members.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that he has been arrested and charged for his alleged conduct.
The property in question is located at No. 20 Alhaji Mustapha Street, Iju Ishaga, Lagos. He allegedly forged the documents, sold the house and then pocketed the money.
According to the Police, their late father,  Gabriel Omigie, built the house and passed on. While the other members of the family were planning to give him a befitting burial,  the suspect was busy planning how to sell the property without the consent of the family members.
He eventually sold the house with the forged documents only for the family members to hear that he had sold the house and pocketed the money.
The matter was reported to the Iju Police Division, he was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
While being interrogated, he admitted to have sold the house with forged documents, pocketed the money alone and dared the members of the family to do their worst.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy,  forgery and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Williams Omigie ‘M’ and others now at large sometimes in the month of December, 2024 at No. 20 Alhaji Mustapha Street, Iju Ishaga, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit forgery, stealing, unlawful interference with property and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate,  Mrs. Of. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.

  • who do we blame for this?
    is it the late father?
the other successful family members that refused to help ?
or the accused over reliance on family property ?
