Police operatives from the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 56-year old man, Taye Apata, who allegedly defiled his 14-year old biological daughter inside Ojo Barracks in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Tom Lane in Ojo Barracks, where they reside.
It was gathered that the man, Apata, started molesting the daughter since August 2020 till February 2021 and warned her not to tell anyone about the dastardly act.
However, when the victim could not bear the trauma, she opened up and revealed what she was going through for the past months and the matter was reported to the Police. The man, Apata, was then arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation.
After thorough investigation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement, which attracts life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
However, when he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion by the Prosecutor, Supol Kehinde Ajayi, to the Court to refer the matter to DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A O. Ajibade, ordered his remand in prison custody at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of DPP’s advice.
The Court also directed the Prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while he remains in custody till the DPP determines if the matter will be transferred to the High Court over jurisdiction.
The matter had been stalled due to the strike by Judicial workers and he remained in custody pending when the Court will give another date for the report of the DPP.
