Police operatives from State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos, have arrested a 57-year old man, David Okubiat, for allegedly luring a 12-year old girl, drugging her and forcefully penetrating her private part.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Tomolo Island, Apapa area of Lagos State, where they reside.
The Police alleged the suspect to have lured the victim into his room apartment, prepared garri and groundnut and then asked her to drink, which she did.
Having taken the garri and groundnut, she fell into deep sleep and the suspect removed her pant and forcefully penetrated her, which caused profuse bleeding from her private part.
When she eventually regained her senses and discovered that she had been raped by the suspect, she raised an alarm which attracted other neighbours including her parents.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ilado Division and the suspect was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over the act.
After thorough interrogation and having been found culpable by the Police, he was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is found guilty before Court.
The prosecutor, Supol Olatunde Kehinde, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice while the matter was adjourned till a further date for hearing.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. O. Ekundayo, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
