A 58-year old man, Kehinde Thomas, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly defiling an 11-year old student inside the school premises.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Teeland Nursery and Primary School, Bariga area of Lagos where the school is located.
According to the Police, the suspect lured the victim inside one of the classrooms and penetrated her private part without the consent of the victim. She later revealed what happened to her parents.
Thus, the parents reported the matter at Bariga Police Division and the suspect was arrested. He was detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The defendant was therefore, remanded in custody at the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
