A 58-year old man, Sergeant Ovodovwe, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly lured his neighbour’s 12-year old girl, engaged her in sex and was caught.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ijegamo Road, Ijegun area of Lagos State, where they reside.
The suspect was said to have lured the girl into his apartment, confused her with words of mouth before he removed her pant and penetrated her private part.
Having satisfied himself, he allowed the girl to go but warned her not to tell anyone what happened. But before then, the information has gotten to the girl’s parents, who confronted her and she opened up; she narrated how she was raped.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and he was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over the dastardly act.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion by the prosecutor, Supol Victor Eruada, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Tanimola, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, without an option of bail and then directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 1st February, 2022, from the report of the DPP to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
