Man, 62, Faces Trial For Engaging Girl, 10, In Sex

A 62-year old man, Bashiru Taiwo, has landed in trouble in Lagos after he allegedly lured a10-year old girl, engaged her in sex romp and was reportedly caught.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ibidun Street in Surulere area of Lagos where they reside.

It was gathered that the suspect, Bashiru, allegedly lured the victim into his apartment under the false pretence of sending her on an errand. The victim who did not suspect any foul play went in and he reportedly locked the door from inside while warning her not to raise any alarm and she complied out of fear. He forced her to his matrimonial bed, removed her pant and defiled her. He then allowed her to go but warned her not to tell anyone what happened.

However, the victim was said to have revealed it to her parents who reported the matter to the Police at the Gender Section of the Command.
During interrogation, the victim revealed all that happened and the suspect, Bashiru, was helpless and did not deny the girl’s claims.
The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged defilement.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Inspector Christopher John, informed the Court that it was a case of defilement that will need the DPP’s report before the matter would go on.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, ordered Bashiru Taiwo to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 11th May, 2019.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Bashiru may spend many years in prison if the DPP recommends his trial and he is found guilty of defilement as charged. The matter may also be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable of the alleged offence.
